Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world. In 2018, the capital, and more generally the IDF region, even welcomed 50 million visitors. But it is not only tourists who are seduced by the City of Light. Whether it is for a stay of a few days as part of a business trip or to settle down for a longer period of time during a professional expatriation, Paris attracts people.
Paris, a popular destination for expatriates
History, gastronomy, architecture, culture… So many arguments that attract expatriates to the capital. Even if the whole city is full of wonders worth a visit, some parts of Paris are more popular with expatriates when it comes to finding accommodation to settle there, whether for a short, medium or long period.
Expats’ favourite neighbourhoods to stay in Paris
Starting with the districts in the city centre, the most historic districts of the capital located around the Seine. The favourite districts for expatriates are: the 4th, also known as the Marais. It is a great place to live with its small steep streets but also its historical sites such as Ile de la Cité, Ile Saint-Louis and of course, Notre-Dame Cathedral. The 5th arrondissement, the Pantheon district, the oldest in Paris, is also very popular. Then the 6th, the most expensive district in Paris with its famous Saint-Germain-des-Prés district and its green setting: the Jardin du Luxembourg.
The 7th arrondissement, which is also full of wonders and cultural sites such as the Musée d’Orsay, Quai Branly, the Eiffel Tower, but also luxury apartments in the many Haussmann buildings, convinces expatriates to make it their home when they settle or stay in Paris.
After the centre, head west of the capital and its upscale districts such as the 15th arrondissement. More bourgeois, famous for the rue Vaugirard, the longest street in Paris and the Montparnasse tower. The 16th arrondissement, the largest in the capital, is extremely green, with the Bois de Boulogne and its sports venues such as the Parc des Princes and Roland-Garros. The 17th arrondissement is also a success with expatriates with its charming Batignolles district and the superb Parc Monceau: it is a rather family district.
Also noteworthy, still to the west, is the Hauts-de-Seine department, which is also very popular, especially since it is located near the business centre of La Défense, which is none other than the largest business district in Europe.
